A responsible FrancoFolies
Vision and approach
Culture is an inexhaustible source of pleasure, wonder, discovery and unity. By
inspiring reflection on the issues and an openness to the world, major cultural
events like the FrancoFolies de Montréal contribute to the greater welfare of the
population. As affirmed by the 2009-2013 plan for action and sustainable development
produced by the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine,
it is necessary to “anchor Quebec culture in sustainable development, making it
an essential dimension of same.” In this perspective, it is undeniable that, through
its actions and in its role as a cultural engine, the FrancoFolies play a role
as a model and leader in promoting sustainable and inclusive development.
Environment and cultural development
Out of concern for preserving the environment, now and for generations to come,
the FrancoFolies de Montréal are more focused than ever on their duty to reduce
their ecological footprint. The many efforts implemented in this regard embrace
environmental issues and the economic and social concerns of the city and the country.
They also promote cultural development and the permanence of local artistic talent.
Every year, the FrancoFolies develop and renew tools with social and environmental
impact, and give the community the means to take up the practice of music, rendering
it increasingly democratic.
In the pages that follow, you will find details on a number of sustainable development
initiatives–environmental, social and economic–that the FrancoFolies
have implemented over the years.
Over the past several years, the festival has launched a plethora of social initiatives
bearing witness to its commitment to sustainable citizen engagement. Here is a brief
look at these actions that benefit the entire community. [More…]
The FrancoFolies' responsible approach also applies to the economic sphere. In this
domain, the measures undertaken have involved local agents and products. [More…]
Greener every year
Far from resting on our laurels, we intend to pursue our sustainable development
strategy and to improve it as the years unfold. The annual Écho-Logique report,
produced by the Consortium of the same name, is an indispensable tool for measuring
the reach of our actions, and helps us improve our results.
In the short term, the FrancoFolies’ main aims are to reuse the greatest amount
of material possible and reduce consumption at source, largely thanks to a project
of refillable water and beer containers, thereby reducing the sale of individual
containers and replacing the use of individual water bottles with reusable containers.
We are also refining our sensitization program by holding training workshops and
preparing environmental dossiers spotlighting our achievements and specifying what
we expect from our temporary work teams.
In addition, we intend to obtain certification related to responsible management
standards for events issued by the Conseil québécois des événements éco-responsables.
In closing, we endeavour to pursue our social mission, with the cooperation of our
partners and suppliers, in order to advance the causes that we hold dear.
